Germany Township is bordered by Mount Joy Township to the west, Mount Pleasant Township to the north, Union Township to the east and Maryland to the south.
The township originally was part of "Digges Choice", a land grant of 10,000 acres made to John Digges on October 14, 1727. Germany Township was part of York County before Adams County was formed in 1800.
Iron ore mines were worked on two township farms in 1876. In 1824 there were several merchants of the area employed in selling foreign wines, liquors and other merchandise. The Littlestown branch railroad served the township and nearby areas beginning in July 1858. The first area turnpike, The Gettysburg and Petersburg (former name of Littlestown), was built from Gettysburg to the State line in 1809. The majority of early settlers were from Germany and Great Britain.
